GoForum add on Can't Post
I've been reading through some of the post regarding the goforum add-on script (and IT's decision not to work on it further) and I'd like to bring up a point that I think IT may have (IMHO) overlooked.

Goforum could be an excellent backend profit center for IT. COnsider this:

Since most of the coding work is already done for Goforum, wouldn't it make sense to create up-to-date, forum specific versions of goforum for the top 4 or so forum software packages. that way, IT could sell a forum-specific goforum add-on to existing clients knowing that it would work with the forum they are using.

It could be a great upsell both at initial purchase, AND when existing users want to add forum functionality to AM. If goforum had been offerred as an add-on for the forum system I use when I purchased, I would have gladly forked over another $50-$60 for it!

I really think IT is missing the boat on this one. Back-end addons are where the big bucks are made !Wink

OR...how abuut IT develops it's OWN spider-friendly forum system that integrates with AM...plenty of open source out there Wink

Hi WebFusion!

It's certainly an idea -- one that's been brought up before, in fact. :) But, at the moment, we prefer to concentrate our resources on updating the core products, rather than the add-ons. There are only so many resources to go around... and the core products come first. :)

That said, in the future... who knows? :)

Could someone provide me with a link to the most recent GoForum download?

I was reading some of the posts about this but it's been so popular it's hard to see what exactly is the latest version with some many posts.

Does anyone have a favourite of the forums that it accepts? At the moment I don't use any of those forums, so before downloading one I'd be interested to see if anyone as a favourite or if anyone knows if it is easier to install one over another.

When I install GoForum will the comments people add to an article appear at the bottom of the article page or do you simply get redirected to the forum?

Hi Michael,

GoForum will redirect users to your forum. What it does is creates a link that you can put anywhere on your page that, when clicked, will either create a new thread or redirect you to the thread it created already.

I agree - GoForum has the potential to be important and yes I would pay money for a supported version (even more that $50 - the US Dollar looks very cheap from the UK right now). Interactivetools may like to limit the forum programs supported, but this is a powerful extension to Article Manager's functionality and could be important in future. I also like the idea of you building your own Forum program - or licensing the rights to develop a program orginating from a third party

I am sure that we need far more interactivity on our Sites and this is one way we can promote this.

Having said that I would like some advice from the folks out there - two things - given that I want to create a forum and link AM postings to it what is the best forum program to use?

Secondly I have a series of related Sites set up for clients, all use AM to run online Magazines, we would like to create a forum using a separate URL, but link to a number of AM installations within this "network" - do you see any problems, or would GoForum only work within a single Site?

Thanks for your post. :)

GoForum simply creates threads in an existing forum. You should have no problem using GoForum on multiple Article Manager installations to post to the same forum. :)

It's not working on VB RC4.

It's working on Vb 2.3.0

I'd be willing to pay for the custom programming to make it work with vB3.0, and then allow it to be released publicly.

We're actually not performing any custom programming at this time while we focus our resources on major features, such as mySQL for Article Manager.

I'm double posting this only because emails will be sent out to those concerned (possibly). Check out Scriptlance.com. Programmers waiting for a job. I know nothing about programming, but with the existing code of GoForum, it seems like someone over there could tackle it.
