Discuss this Article v1.04 - Discus support & ikonboard mods Can't Post
Hi folks,

We've added support for the Discus forum (http://www.discusware.com/discus/index.php) to goforum.cgi, and added a "no login" option for ikonboard.

Grab it here: http://www.interactivetools.com/products/articlemanager/addons/goforum.zip

Here's the changelog entry for version 1.04:

- updated ikonBoard code to support "no login required" flag and not generate error.
- added additional "UserName" field that's send to ikonBoard for anonymous postings
- added support for Discus - note: posting without username and password has not been tested

Hello Ken,

Thanks for the script supporting Discuss, installed it and trying to get it work. I could get the script to post the article to the discussion board, but it never goes to that page. The next time I click on Discuss this article it gives an error You are not authorized to view this page Can you please let me know what the problem is.. the topic is created in the board.. just cannot go there... http://www.telugucinema.cc/cgi-bin/artman/exec/goforum.cgi?id=667 Thanks

The fact that the redirect url has no filename tells me that the initial post is not picking up that page number. (http://www.telugucinema.cc/discus/messages/2/.html - there should be a number between / and .html)

In the configuration section, did you set $g{'forum_num'} = 2; ?

With Discus, this needs to be set to the name of the directory (Discus uses numbers for directory names) where messages are stored. In your case, the index is at: http://www.telugucinema.cc/discus/messages/2/2.html , and messages posted to this index are stored in the $g{'forum_messages_url'}/$g{'forum_num'} directory, so you can see where the 2 comes from Wink

Hi Ken,

Yes I did set $g{'forum_num'} = 2; That is what bugs me... it posts the message to the right folder (topic), but the redirect for some reason is not getting the URL right... any ideas of what's happening.!! Frown

goforum.cgi stores the discussion page data in a file named goforum.dat . If you've installed goforum in /artman/exec/, then this file resides in the /artman/data/ directory. Check to see that this file exists, and that the file permissions for it are world writable.

It seems as if I have the same problem as telugucinema had.

Go to http://www.lhs.se/comenius/article_52.html
Click on "Diskutera denna artikel" ("discuss this article" in Swedish) and you can see that it doesnīt work. Frown

Iīve followed the instructions and read this thread, but I just canīt get it to work.
I've also double checked all the settings...

According to the redirect, the index for this discussion should be at http://www.lhs.se/cgi-bin/comenius/discus/messages/2/2.html. However, it is actually at http://www.lhs.se/comenius/discus/messages/2/2.html . This indicates that you have set $g{'forum_messages_url'} incorrectly. In your case, my guess is that this should be set to http://www.lhs.se/comenius/discus/messages .

Hi Ken and thanks for your quick answer!
Here are my settings in the goforum.cgi:

$g{'forum_url'} = 'http://www.lhs.se/cgi-bin/comenius/discus';
$g{'forum_messages_url'} = 'http://www.lhs.se/comenius/discus/messages';

As you can see they are as recommended in the instructions. Unsure

And looking at the error message, which is
"Location: http://www.lhs.se/cgi-bin/comenius/discus/messages/2/.html"
it looks as if I have two problems;

1. The visitor is redirected to the wrong url (should be http://www.lhs.se/comenius/discus/messages/)
2. The file name of the discussion in not included in the url (should be 2.html)

Pretty strange, huh?

Have you tried just making a normal post to the forum with the username and password you configured in goforum.cgi?

I've got exactly the same problem as Ivar and have tried posting to the forum directly using the account set up for the article-discus posts and that works fine.

In fact the goforum script posts articles in the right place, it just redirects you to the wrong page.

Here's a quick thought - what version of Discus was the goforum written for?

I'm currently using Discus 3.10.5 PRO - make any difference?

Yepp posting works fine. The user is "Anon" and no password is required.

I use Discus 3.10.5 Freeware.

It seems that your version of Discus indicates the articles differently than other versions, so I've made a quick modification to the script, which I'll release as version 1.05. Unfortunately, I don't have your version of Discus for testing, so please try this out and post your results back here. Thank-you!

I am running DCForum, any ideas on how I would hack this to work with DCForum, either the Perl version or the PHP version?

Hi Ken and thanks for the changes! Youīre closing in, but still no cigar. Wink

The error message is as follows:
http://www.lhs.se/cgi-bin/comenius/discus/messages/2/.html

As I see it, this means that goforum.cgi has found the configured directory (2), but the script canīt find a page to display.
Or what do think of this?

Hi Ivar,

I've verified that goforum 1.05 (attached as a zip to my previous post) does extract the article discussion page correctly. I even used your discussion index page. Prior to version 1.05, the Discus Pro tag was not recognized properly, so maybe you need to empty goforum.dat file?

If your goforum.dat is empty, then perhaps it needs to be set to world writable. Login with your FTP program and CHMOD it to 755.

Hi Ken,

I've just uploaded V1.05 so I can get the redirection to the Discus Pro board working but I'm having problems.

When I call goforum.dat from my browser specifying a article number that exists it throws up a 403 error and does not create the article.

When I call up the script using an article number that is not valid it does tell me that the article does not exist (from this I know that the script is running!)

the v1.04 script created discussion topics ok just couldn't redirect to the discussion page.

Any pointers to where I'm going wrong?
