Currently I'm working on a Calender add-on that I think can be used by variety of sites.

Basic idea is to have a full years calender but only have certain days show on the website (unless of course the user clicks a view all link).

Say we set the calender on the site to show 15 days. There'd be a config option of where to put current date. Say we put the current day in the middle of the 15 days.. We could configure the calender to show the 7 days previous and 7 days afterward. Say its a calender of events. THe previous days would have a link with details of what happened (automatically inserted when an article is submitted for that day). THe future dates would show a schedule of events with times (in this scenerior it would just be text, no links).

So far the only problem I've ran into is that I can't predict what future articles will be named since the numbering system in AM is for ALL articles posted rather then a specific directory.

Hopefully one of the AM product specialist can tell me how to specify a number system unique to a category/directory rather than the universal one located in setup options.

I'd like some feedback on this idea as well as options for config that some of you may use this with.

That sounds like it would be a really helpful script but as you said Article Manager publishes its articles in numerical order. I can't really think of a way you would be able to know the article number of an article in a certain category but I'll think about it and let you know if I come up with something.

One way you may be able to predict the name of future articles is if you allow the user to name the article themselves. There are, of course, issues with having your users follow a strict naming convention but you would then be able to call your calendar files calendar_1.shtml, calendar_2.shtml etc. Then for your other news articles you can just leave the "Filename" field blank and those articles will be assigned their name (article_1.shtml, article_2.shtml etc). To allow users to specify their own filenames log in to Article Manager and click "Setup Options". Under "Editor Settings", right above the "Publish All" button, you'll want to click on the checkbox beside "Allow users to specify filenames for individual articles".

It's not a brilliant solution but its something that may work for you.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a workaround so keep us posted on the Calendar add-on! Smile
