Thanks for the post!
The e-mail notification that is sent out when you add/modify an article is actually a template file that you are able to edit. You can find the file on your server in /cgi-bin/artman/templates/email/notify.txt. If you open this file in a text editor program you'll see the basic template for the notification e-mails. In this file you can add a line that may look like this:
Category - $cat_breadcrumb$
After making this change you'll want to save this file and upload it to your server. This should give you the result you're looking for.
