Curriculum Aims and Organisation
Jubilee High School is a community that has been and is being enriched by a wide diversity in our work. We believe that the experiences that our students bring with them represent a positive gain to all our daily lives.
At Jubilee we aim to challenge and excite students by providing a flexible and dynamic learning environment for all. The policies and strategies that we are developing are designed to ensure that the school has a framework within which our aims can be realised and turned into daily practice. Our day-to-day practice is firmly grounded in the belief that every student, irrespective of ability, has the capacity to learn and develop creatively.
We aim to:
- provide an environment that enables all individuals within the school community, regardless of gender, race, creed, or ability, to develop their abilities and talents to the full;
- encourage and project an ethos of mutual respect and support where the diversity of people’s backgrounds is used to enrich our community and everyone is treated with equal value and care;
- develop well rounded, self-fulfilled individuals who are made aware of and are able to take advantage of all that Jubilee offers;
- widen perspectives, raise expectations and show through the success of older students and adults that aspirations can be realised;
- ensure that the school, as a community resource, actively encourages parents, students, local people, industry and business to take an active part in its life and that the school strives for excellence in all aspects of communication with our community; integrate all the students’ diverse learning experiences into a cohesive and coherent whole;
- be rightfully regarded as the first choice provider of secondary education in the community we serve.
THE CURRICULUM
The aims of the Curriculum are: - to ensure that all students develop and fulfil their potential;
- to provide an education which is appropriate to the demands of the 21st century;
- to encourage our students to adopt a problem solving approach to their studies;
- to provide an educational framework appropriate to each student’s age, ability and aptitude i.e. to meet the needs of all learners;
- to provide students with the skills to aid their progress into independent, self-motivated learners within a framework of clear expectations and an appropriate code of behaviour;
- to encourage in those we teach an independence of mind, an enjoyment of learning and confidence in their own potential, sharing and celebrating success and achievement whenever possible;
- to provide a system of academic tutoring which ensures that every learner’s progress is monitored and high expectations are communicated;
- to enable each student to become a sensible and responsible adult, developing self-esteem, self-discipline and respect for others.
