General Options
-
- Titlebar Message
- Allows you to Personalize your copy of Search Engine by adding this text to the Title of the page, and the Title of the News Manager Interface.
- Display "confirm erase" page
- Display "record erased" page
- Display "record saved" page
- Display "setup warning" page
- These options allow you to turn off confirmation screens as you get more familiar with using the software.
-
- Convert Euro Chars
- Normally, characters with accents will only match characters with the same accents. In most cases, it's advisable to have the program convert characters with accents.
- Build Search Reports
- Although building reports makes your searches slightly slower, it can provide invaluable feedback about what your visitors are looking for and what they are finding. Additionally, building search reports will use up a small amount of disk space, typically around 30Kb
- Minimum File Size
- Maximum File Size
- You can instruct Search Engine not to search exceptionally small or large files by setting a range here.
- Max Search Results
- To prevent searches going on longer than necessary, the Search Engine can stop looking for results after it hits a maximum. The program only stops searching after getting this number of matches: if no matches are found, the program will still search through every file. Please note that it's possible for omitted results to be more relevant than results returned, as some files will never be examined.
- Search Results Cache
- When Search Engine examines a page, it stores information about the search to make paging through the results faster. Unfortunately, this information accumulates quickly and can easily start taking up large amounts of your disk. Search Engine allows you to specify a maximum size for the cache. Having your result cache too small will cause search results to expire.
-
- Default Filename Prefixes
- By specifying a list of allowed prefixes, you can have Search Engine exclusively search only files which meet a naming convention. For example, if the only files you want searched on your site begin with "article", you can force Search Engine to ignore any other files by entering that prefix here. This list may be complimented or supplemented for each category.
- Default HTML Files
- Search Engine will only search HTML pages with these extensions. This list may be complimented or supplemented for each category.
- Default Text Files
- Search Engine will only search Text pages with these extensions. This list may be complimented or supplemented for each category.
-
- Document Title
- Meta Keywords
- Meta Description
- Document Body
- When searching, each keyword scores points for each match in the document. The higher the number, the more relevant each hit in that area will be. Additionally, you can set weighting so that keywords found in a page's Meta Keywords tag will score higher than keywords found in the Document Body. If you don't want meta tags to score results, you may want to drop the score to zero.
