WYSIWYG Editor Troubleshooting

WYSIWYG editor not appearing in Article Manager?
If you see a plain textarea or nothing at all where the WYSIWYG editor should appear, follow these steps to find a solution:

1. Javascript enabled?
Check that you have javascript enabled for your browser. A message in red bold text will appear below if you don't have JavaScript enabled.

2. Supported Browser?
Check that you are using one of the supported browsers:

for Windows users: for Mac OS X users:
Internet Explorer 5.5+
Firefox 1.0+ Firefox 1.0+
Mozilla 1.7+ Mozilla 1.7+
Netscape 7.1+ Netscape 7.1+
Note: Browsers not supported will display a unedittable textarea.

3. File permissions set?
Check that the following permissions are set:
[webroot]/artman2/wysiwyg/       - the directory itself and all subdirectories set permission to 755 (executable)
[webroot]/artman2/wysiwyg/*.*   - all files in this directory and in subdirectories set permission to 644 (readable)

4. Article Field type set to WYSIWYG?
The Article Field (Summary or Content for example) that you want to appear as a WYSIWYG editor needs to a have the field type option set to "WYSIWYG". To check, go to the Admin > Database Editor and select "edit table & fields" for "Articles". On the following Table Editor page for Articles, select "modify" for Content field. Confirm that the radio button for editor type on the page is selected for WYSIWYG (rich text editor).

5. Using a relative URL for the Images URL in the Setup Options?
In the Images URL field (in the Setup Options under the Server tab), check that you are using a relative URL like this "/artman/images/". On some hosts, using an absolute URL like this "http://www.mywebsite.com/artman/images/" causes problems with the editor if a user logs in to Article Manager without the "www" in the URL.
