Publishing Rules

a list of articles (articleList)

This type of Publishing Rule generates a list of your articles. You can use these for headlines files or for the index pages of your website. Some users even generate custom lists of headlines to use in other pages of their website.

Rule Options

Published Files
You can select whether to publish a "master list" that will list articles for all categories in a single page, or "category lists", which will generate once article list page for each category.

Additionally, the Filename field lets you set the naming convention for the published file(s). Important: it's possible to overwrite the files generated by one publish rule with another, so check your naming conventions carefully.

Tip: You can use slashes in the filename field (i.e. foldername/filename) in order to create folders that the files will be created in.

For example, if you used "members/index" for your filename (and <ext> for your extension), it would name the file index.shtml and put the file in a "members" folder off of your publish directory.

If you're going to put most of your content into the same folders, instead of customizing your publishing rules you should probably update your Publish Directory/URL in Admin > Server Settings.
Limit Results
These values specify how many articles will be listed on the generated page(s). You should always start at result #1, unless you have a good reason not to.

Important: these results don't correspond to article numbers, but to how far into the "list" of articles that's generated by the publishing rule.
