Server Options

Directories and URLs

option description
Publish Dir Allows you to move the directory in which files are published. Be aware that changing this directory does not move any of the existing files. This can be customized for individual categories Category Editor.
Publish URL All links between published pages are prefixed by the Publish URL to fully qualify them. Specifying an absolute URL to published pages is important if you're including a published page on your home page in another directory via SSI's. This can be customized for individual categories Category Editor.
Upload Dir Allows you to move the uploaded files directory to another location if you wish. Be aware that changing this directory does not move any of the existing files. This can be customized for individual categories Category Editor.
Upload URL The Upload URL is required to locate uploaded images for your published pages. This can be customized for individual categories Category Editor.
Images URL The Images URL is required to correctly display the interface. This URL is not used for published pages.
Search URL This is the URL used to access Article Manager's Search Engine. It is used in published pages.
Dynamic Viewer URL This is the URL used to access Article Manager's archived article viewer. The script filename by default is view.cgi

Publish File Settings

option description
Global Category Name When a global page is published with a category template, the $cat_name$ placeholder is replaced with this value. This feature allows you to reuse templates for sites which have identical global and category pages.
Filename Prefix These fields dictate the filenames of the published files the program will create. Changing these filenames will not cause the program to re-publish, and when it does re-publish it will not erase your old files. The "example output" field shows you what the end result will be when your files are named.
per page You can specify how many articles will appear on each page. For the Top Headlines page, this number specifies how many articles will be listed under each category.
publish By unchecking this box, you can prevent different sections of published pages from being published. Changing these settings will not cause the program to automatically publish any files you've checked, nor will it erase any files you've unchecked.

Subcategory Settings

option description
Subcategory Indexing With this checked, all articles belonging to subcategories will also be included in the subcategory's parent category article lists. For example, if you had a Sports category, and a subcategory under Sports named Soccer, with this featured checked, all articles output in the Soccer article list would also be output in the Sports article list.
Max Subcategory Depth This feature allows you to define how many levels of subcategory depth Article Manager can have. Setting this to 1 would allow for only top level categories, while setting it to 3 would allow for 2 levels of depth below the parent categories. Depending on how many levels of you have, you will need an equal amount of row_depth and row_selected_depth templatecells in the category_list.html template file.
Subcategory Format This allows you to specify what format you would like to use for outputting your subcategory links in the Category List.

See the Subcategory Documentation for more information on these format options.

Re-publish all files Clicking this button will re-publish all files.

Publish Settings

option description
Auto Publish This feature will cause your published pages to immediately reflect any changes you make to articles or categories. Enabling this makes Article Manager much easier to use, however, on slower sites, you may want to wait until you have a bunch of changes to update and then "Publish All" manually.
Identify published pages By default, Article Manager will add a meta generator tag and a timestamp to all published pages. To disable this functionality, uncheck this box.
Archived article pages Controls whether of not the program will publish small "redirect" pages in place of archived articles, to redirect users and search engines to the dynamic article viewer.
Dynamic Viewer URLs URLs to the dynamic article viewer are in "query string" format by default (e.g. view.cgi?archive=2&article=34). Checking this box will cause URLs to the dynamic article viewer to be created in "path info" format (e.g. view.cgi/2/34). Please note that path info format is not compatible with some webservers.
Hidden Category Indexes With this option selected, the index page for categories will be published even if the category is hidden.
Publish file extension All published pages share this file extension.
Re-publish all files Clicking this button will re-publish all files.

Email Settings

If you are on a unix/linux/freebsd/solaris server, Article Manager detects sendmail if it is in a common location (it must still be entered and configured). If you are on a windows server, or don't have sendmail installed, you will need to use an SMTP server.

If available, we recommend sendmail over SMTP.

option description
Enable Email Notification This checkbox is a global enable/disable setting.  Put a checkmark here to enable Email Notifications.
Sender Email This is the email address which the notification is FROM.  If users REPLY to an Email Notification, this is where their reply will be sent.
Sender Name This is the name which will display in the FROM field for Email Notifications.
Send email with This radio button allows you to choose which mail server is used.  Select the radio button which indicates your preferred email sending method.  You only need to fill in the information for the mail server you choose.
Sendmail Path This is the server path to Sendmail.  A list of standard locations where Sendmail has been detected on your server appears below the text box allowing you to copy & paste the mail server of your choice.  You may also use the Browse... button to specify it's location.  Note that there is no need to add any flags to this path since that is handled by the software itself.
SMTP Server The SMTP server may be specified by domain name or IP address.  e.g. mail.yoursite.com or simply yoursite.com.
POP3 Login Some SMTP Servers require that prior to sending an email, the mail sender (which is the software rather than a person in this case) has "authenticated" itself by logging into a POP3 mail server first.  Put a checkmark in this box if this is the case with your host.
POP3 Host The POP3 Host may be specified by domain name or IP address.  e.g. pop3.yoursite.com.
POP3 Username This is the username you have setup for the software's email account.  While it is not necessary to setup a unique email account just for use by the software, it is recommended.
POP3 Password Enter the password associated with the email account.
Test Email Button Once you have provided the require information for your chosen mail server, you should perform a test of your settings by clicking this button.  Enter your own email address in the pop-up window and click the Send Test Message button.  The pop-up window will inform you if the email was sent successfully or if a problem was encountered.  You should also check your email to make sure you received the test message.  In most cases the test email should reach you within a few minutes.

Local Time Adjustment

If your Web Server is in a different time zone, you may want to have Article Manager account for the difference.
